We have been wanting to get out of the house and have an adventure. Have you? The coronavirus has ruined many of our travel plans for the last few months and into the future. I have been thinking lately that maybe Camping is a good option, Camping The campgrounds in our state, North Carolina, have started to open, so we decided to go. This is our first trip this year, and only the third time we have camped since we bought our camper last year! We chose a campground fairly close to home, only about 90 miles away, Raleigh Oaks RV Resort. They are located at 527 US Hwy 701 S., Four Oaks, North Carolina.
Raleigh Oaks RV Resort – Campground Review
Choosing the Campground and Checking in
The way we chose this campground and RV resort was in our Good Sam club guidebook. We are Good Sam club members and the guidebook provides information about their campgrounds throughout the United States. We looked up our state and found Raleigh Oaks RV Resort, they have a great Good Sam rating of 10! We looked up their website which provided us with all the information we needed to make our final decision. We called the campground to make a reservation. Due to the Coronavirus, the office building was not open so they took our payment over the phone and told us we could pick up the map and site information from the “dropbox” when we arrived.
Campsites
It was very easy to find the office and dropbox. The campsites are very well marked, we found ours right away! I also noticed that the campground was very level. We found the campsites to be very large, with a picnic table and fire pit. The landscaping was also very nice, with trees and bushes placed throughout the campground. They have many cool amenities like; 2 swimming pools, a hot tub, 3 dog parks, an event center, and a fitness center! See the full list below!
Campground policies and Amenities
- Check-in 1:00 pm, Check-out 11:00 am
- 150 RV sites
- Non-aggressive dogs are allowed
- WiFi and Cable TV
- Fire Pit
- Picnic Table
- 2 Swimming pools
- A Hot Tub
- Billiard Room
- Fitness Center
- Pickleball Courts
- Miniature Golf
- Playground
- Restrooms and Showers
- Laundry Facility
- 3 Dog Parks
- Event Center
- Cottages for Rent
This building has individual bathrooms/showers on each side. I have never been to a campground that was set up this way. Usually, there’s a shower building with individual stalls closed with shower curtains. To have your own enclosed shower room is a real luxury!
We found the swimming pools, miniature golf, pickleball courts, and playground. The buildings were closed due to the coronavirus; billiard room, event center, laundry facility, and fitness center. Once it is fully open again, this campground would be a great place for the whole family!
Cottages for rent
If you don’t want to camp, they have some great cottages for rent! We took a walk down by the cottage area of the resort. The cottages looked really nice! Some had large decks attached, air conditioning, and fireplaces! Here are the different options:
- Studio sleeps 2
- Studio with bunk beds sleeps 4
- Studio cottage deluxe with bunk beds sleeps 4
- The two-Bedroom cottage sleeps 6
- The family cottage sleeps 8
In Conclusion..
We had a lot of fun there despite the facilities that were closed. We ordered some great take-out food(many great local restaurants), sat outside and watched the people walk by, and went for walks. The WiFi and Cable TV worked great! Unfortunately, we didn’t have a chance to build a fire, which is one of my favorite things! On one of the days, we drove into the town of Smithfield and explored. We found many great restaurants, a cute downtown area, a river, and a mall. Later that day, we went to a Civil War Battlefield(watch for this post coming soon). The only complaint I have is the lack of shade trees. When the summer months get hot, I like to sit under a shade tree. Camping under a shade tree also keeps your RV a lot cooler! We have not found many campgrounds that have so many amenities! Two swimming pools and a hot tub are wonderful! I think we will come back so I can check that out!
Have you thought about camping as an option? A lot of the other Travel options are uncertain right now. If you don’t own a camper, maybe you could rent a camper and take your family camping(find the link to RV Share earlier in this post). Please leave me a comment and let me know what you think. I would love to hear about your upcoming travel plans and if a camping trip is in your future!

Hi,
Thank you for all the details about not only the campground, but also the area and about renting an RV. Your enthusiasm makes me want to try it.
Thank you for all the photos, too. The campground looks so well kept and appealing. We may be heading to the Carolinas in the future and I will definitely keep this campground in mind.
Thank you so much! I hope you do try camping!
I like how you have provided a detailed guide about the camping place. I stay in cabins at some parks here.
Thanks! We have stayed in cabins sometimes too!
Whoa! This is such a detailed review, I love it! We dream of getting an RV…. hopefully soon! I love all your pictures and how detailed you are with everything!
Thanks! I appreciate that! I hope you can get an RV soon. Let me know what you get.
What a perfect getaway! Great idea to explore locally and support local business. Our camping sites are pretty much limited right now.
Yep! We stayed close to home for now! Thanks for reading!
What a nice little way to get away!
Thanks
This looks like such a nice park! We enjoy camping. We still do tent camping.
I gave up tent camping years ago, too many mornings with wet sleeping bags from the rain! I’m glad you enjoy it!!
My husband has reached the age where he is no longer interested in tent camping. Right now we are hotel people, but we’ve talked about trying the RV thing down the road. This place looks like it has great bathroom facilities!
I also gave up tent camping… we have only had this camper for about 1 year. We like the “Idea” of camping, time will tell if we truly like it!
It’s so great to see the campgrounds open! Looks like a great place to camp, but I’m with you, I need lots of shade trees!
Yep! It’s ok for Spring camping, but when the Summer heat hits, we need shade!!
Looks like a nice, clean option for the area!
We look forward to more camping. Thanks for reading!
We went camping this last weekend and it was so nice to be outside and enjoying nature!
It is nice! Thanks for reading!
We love camping! Those bathrooms look so clean! That’s a big plus for me! Great read!
The bathrooms looked really clean! Thanks for reading!
We haven’t ventured out yet this year, but we can’t wait to get out. We have a few places in mind that we’d like to go, we just need to narrow it down.
I hope you have a great time! Thanks for reading!
We are definitely looking into renting an RV, thanks for sharing.
It would be fun! I hope you try it! Thanks for reading!
I love the cabins! They look great.
Thanks for reading!
Looks like a great campground. We were tent camping at KOA’s all over Utah, Colorado, New Mexico, and Arizona until covid-19 forced us home. We can’t wait to get back out on the road!
That sounds awesome! I use to tent camp!
I’ve always been a little gun shy about going camping (I’m an air-conditioning kind of gal), but these pictures make it look peaceful and fun!
Today’s campers are fully equipped! You might enjoy it!
I love camping. We haven’t gone yet this season but should be heading out soon. I enjoyed reading about your first adventure this season!
Thanks!
Camping is probably one of the safest options for being able to travel again!
I think so too!
I was never a campground type person when I go camping I go into the woods by a lake where I probably won’t see anyone, but sounds like a place so many people camp with some amenities!
I understand! Thanks for reading!
This looks like a lot of fun! especially in these times when we have to social distance.
It is fun! Thanks for reading!
I would need to have shade trees as well. I always park under a tree when we camp. Looks like a great place otherwise!
It was nice! Thanks for reading!
Can’t wait to go camping! Usually I go to a campground that my family has been a part of since its conception over 60 years ago. I stay in a cabin or with my brother and wife in their trailer on the grounds. This place looks nicee but I’m with you, it needs more trees!
That’s cool! My family went to a campground in Wisconsin for many years!
The campground I was referring to is near Wisconsin Dells. It has camp sites and cabins.
I’m from Wisconsin! That’s cool!
I haven’t tried but my husband said we will coz he likes fishing and camping
Sounds Good! Thanks for reading!
