Mayberry Campground – Review
Our first camping trip in our new RV was to Mayberry Campground, which is about 89 miles from our home. We often camp within our state of North Carolina. Even though we are only about 2 hours from home, it still feels like we are far, far away. The state of North Carolina offers a lot of diversity. We can travel west to the Great Smoky Mountains, or head east to the coast of the Atlantic Ocean.
Mayberry Campground, Mount Airy NC
Mayberry campground is located at 114 Bunker Rd., Mount Airy, North Carolina. The reason it’s named Mayberry is that it is close to the town of Mount Airy NC, which is often referred to as Mayberry. Mount Airy is where Andy Griffith was born and is the inspiration for the town of Mayberry in his TV show. You can still see his childhood home, and visit the Andy Griffith Museum.
We found this campground to be very clean, and well-kept, with a good layout. The sites were large and staggered so that the neighboring camper was not too close. They have two ponds with fishing allowed and a lot of walking paths. We noticed several covered shelters throughout the campground with picnic tables. These would be nice for groups, or just to have a picnic under the shelter. Each campsite has a picnic table and a fire ring. The shelters have community grills, for everyone’s use.
May is a great time of year to camp, it’s not too cold and not too hot! The campgrounds are also less crowded since school is still in session. I love children, but sometimes it’s fun to be in a less crowded campground and have the site next to ours empty. We usually don’t go camping when it’s 90 degrees outside!
