The Best of Largo, Florida

Florida is a beautiful place with lots of things to see and do! Did I mention there are miles and miles of beautiful beaches! My son and daughter-in-law live in Largo, Florida, which is near the gulf coast and about 23 miles west of Tampa. It has a population of about 85,000 and was first incorporated in 1905. It’s the third-largest city in Pinellas County. You will find hiking trails, beautiful parks, and lakes, and great restaurants!

Best Beaches

Going to the beach is one of our favorite things to do near Largo. Indian Rocks Beach is close by, about 5 miles from the city of Largo, and one of the best places to find seashells. You can find free parking if you get there early in the day. Sand Key Park is in Clearwater and is about 7 miles from Largo. It’s a great beach with fine white sand and parking is only $5/daily, they also have beach chairs and umbrellas for rent. We have seen a lot of exotic birds at Sand Key and one day we saw a group of stingrays!

Fun Facts: A group of Stingrays is called a Fever, a group of Dolphins is called a Pod, and a group of Egrets is called a Congregation.

Besides chillin’ on the beach or gathering seashells, my husband enjoys metal detecting. I know it sounds like an “old person” thing, but it’s really fun and we have walked for miles and miles hunting for treasures. We always find something; coins, keys, nails, rings, and even a metal matchbox car!

If you are interested in metal detecting, it’s important to have good equipment, this is the metal detector I bought for my husband.

Mayberry Campground – Review

Our first camping trip in our new RV was to Mayberry Campground, which is about 89 miles from our home. We often camp within our state of North Carolina. Even though we are only about 2 hours from home, it still feels like we are far, far away. The state of North Carolina offers a lot of diversity. We can travel west to the Great Smoky Mountains, or head east to the coast of the Atlantic Ocean.

Mayberry Campground, Mount Airy NC

Mayberry campground is located at 114 Bunker Rd., Mount Airy, North Carolina. The reason it’s named Mayberry is that it is close to the town of Mount Airy NC, which is often referred to as Mayberry. Mount Airy is where Andy Griffith was born and is the inspiration for the town of Mayberry in his TV show. You can still see his childhood home, and visit the Andy Griffith Museum.

We found this campground to be very clean, and well-kept, with a good layout. The sites were large and staggered so that the neighboring camper was not too close. They have two ponds with fishing allowed and a lot of walking paths. We noticed several covered shelters throughout the campground with picnic tables. These would be nice for groups, or just to have a picnic under the shelter. Each campsite has a picnic table and a fire ring. The shelters have community grills, for everyone’s use.

May is a great time of year to camp, it’s not too cold and not too hot! The campgrounds are also less crowded since school is still in session. I love children, but sometimes it’s fun to be in a less crowded campground and have the site next to ours empty. We usually don’t go camping when it’s 90 degrees outside!

Our First Trip – Green Bay, Wisconsin

Lambeau Field

Our first trip to Lambeau Field and a Green Bay Packer game was in 2011. It was Christmas Day, we had only been dating for 3 months when we took the 15-hour road trip to Green Bay, Wisconsin. My future husband was a Packer fan just like me, what are the odds of that happening! I was born and raised in Wisconsin but he was from North Carolina! I took this as a sign from God! so, we loaded up the car and headed on our road trip, from North Carolina to Wisconsin.

You can’t imagine how exciting it is to be in Lambeau field when you have loved the Packers forever! We had purchased perfect tickets on the 50-yard line. The sights and sounds of being at the game in person are amazing! We barely noticed that the temperature was below freezing, Brrrr! You are packed into your seats so tightly that you are immediately best friends with everyone around you, that is unless they are Bear fans! The Packer fans are the best! Everyone cheers loudly and there are “high-fives” all around when they get a first down or score. During the game, we try to make as much noise as possible to distract the other team.

The Green Bay Packers take the field against the Chicago Bears. As you can see, our seats were great! We were so lucky to find these tickets, I think we bought them on eBay. We took a big risk that he was an honest seller! Everything turned our great for us!
