Peace Valley Campground Murphy NC

The Peace Valley KOA campground near Murphy NC is a great place to camp! Surrounded by the Great Smoky Mountains and with Valley River running through it, you will find that it is a very peaceful place to camp. They are open year-round and are pet-friendly! The campground is located just minutes from the small town of Murphy NC, where you will find great shopping, attractions, and restaurants!

Also, the natural beauty of this area provides lots of places to explore!

The campground is located at 117 Happy Valley Road, Marble NC. Which is about 53 miles southwest of Cherokee NC and 107 miles west of Asheville NC. The Georgia state line is about 25 miles to the south.

If you take the drive from Cherokee to Murphy on Hwy 74, you will drive through the Nantahala National Forest and along the Nantahala River. The Nantahala River is famous for its whitewater rafting, as well as, the Nantahala Outdoor Center(NOC). If you have time, you may want to try some whitewater rafting! If not, you can just stop along the way to watch the rafters and kayakers traveling down the river.

The NOC is just 30 miles from the Peace Valley/Murphy KOA. It would be fun to spend a day on the Nantahala River and then return to your campsite for an evening campfire.

Campground Amenities

Peace Valley Campground has many great amenities with families in mind. Likewise, the natural beauty of the area, in the foothills of the Smoky Mountains, makes it a good place for; hiking, fishing, kayaking, canoeing, and swimming. In the Fall, the beauty of the surrounding mountain forests with their red, yellow, and orange leaves, is spectacular!

RV Sites

This KOA has several RV sites to choose from, some sites back up to the Valley River, while others are shady sites.

RV sites start at $46/night.

  • Back in with 50/30/20 amps, full hook-ups, picnic table and fire ring, shade, and Waterview
  • Pull thru with 50/30/20 amps, full hook-ups, picnic table, and fire ring, large spacious sites
  • Pull thru with 50/30/20 amps, full hook-ups, and a KOA patio
  • Back in with 50/30/20 amps, full hook-ups, a KOA patio, shady sites
  • Back in 50/30/20 amps, water and electric only, Riverfront

Tent Sites

The tent sites sit on a sand pad with no water and electricity.

The rate is $30/night.

Cabins

There are several cabins available for rental if you don’t have an RV.

Cabin rates start at $115/night.

  • #2 Deluxe cabin, sleeps 5, with 2 beds, full kitchen, full bath/with shower. Has AC and Heat, and a screened porch with seating
  • #4 Deluxe cabin, sleeps 5, with 2 beds, partial kitchen, full bath’/with shower, and a porch deck with roof
  • #3 Deluxe cabin, sleeps 4, with 2 beds, full kitchen, full bath/with shower, and a screened porch directly on Valley River
  • #1 Deluxe cabin, sleeps 5, with 2 beds, full kitchen, full bath/with shower, and a covered porch with woodland view

Things to do

You will find many things to do in the campground, as well as outside the campground, in the surrounding area.

Inside the Campground

  • Play Basketball or volleyball
  • Ring Toss or corn hole
  • Go for a swim or lounge at the pool
  • Fish in the river
  • Play badminton
  • Check out the game room, pool, foosball, and video games
  • Watch football in the game room on their large TV
  • Take your dog for a walk or to the Dog park
  • Build a campfire and roast marshmallows

Outside the Campground

Just a few miles away, you will find Piney Knob Trails, they have several great bike trails. If motorcycling is more your thing, check out Tail of the Dragon, located only 30 minutes from the campground, with over 318 curves in 11 miles! Maybe you would like to see the beautiful mountain scenery and ride the railroad, on the Great Smoky Mountain Railway, only 45 minutes from the campground in Bryson City NC.

Spending the day in the town of Murphy NC is also a good idea! You will find some interesting little shops as well as great food! We highly recommend Shoebooties cafe.

There is one more place that we recommend you see if you are in the Murphy area, Hiwassee Lake and Dam. It’s located about 26 miles from the campground. There is plenty of parking and a rest area by the Lake. You enter this area by driving across the Dam, which is pretty cool!


In Conclusion….

Western North Carolina is a beautiful part of our state! I have always loved the mountains. There is so much to explore, hiking, mountain streams, waterfalls, camping, and cooler summer weather!
